Need & Problem
I joined the company at the very beginning, when the idea was to build a fully personalized fertilizer subscription service.
There was no existing system. Everything had to be designed and built from scratch.
The challenge was to turn a science based product into a scalable operational model:
• Structure customer lawn data in a usable way
• Integrate weather data into fertilizer logic
• Process laboratory soil results automatically
• Calculate fertilizer quantities per lawn and trimester
• Connect product logic with Shopify and recurring billing
• Manage automated deliveries for around 1,000 customers per cycle
• Enable personalized customer communication based on Airtable data
• Create visibility for the team through operational dashboards
The business model depended entirely on building a reliable, automated backbone from day one.
The Solution
I designed and implemented the operational backbone of the business:
• Built the full data architecture in Airtable (customers, lawns, fertilizers, subscription cycles)
• Developed custom logic to calculate fertilizer quantities per lawn and trimester
• Automated soil lab result ingestion via FTP integration
• Integrated Shopify product logic via GraphQL (via make.com)
• Implemented recurring delivery automation (~1,000 customers per cycle)
• Built Airtable dashboards for operational monitoring, subscription oversight, and delivery tracking
• Implemented personalized email automation (newsletters and customer communication) powered by Airtable data and synced to the marketing system (Mailersend)
• Set up Slack-based error monitoring and alerts
• Contributed to the development of a customer portal for personalized lawn care instructions (Webflow)
